METTE MEHLSEN is Danish and has always been passionate about textile craftsmanship.

In addition to dyeing vegetable yarns, creating designs and teaching textile crafts,
she works with cultural history objects in a local open-air museum.

Her passion for plant dyeing really came to life at the museum after handling 19th century plant-dyed textiles.
She always thought it would give her a deeper understanding of a craft by being able to explore it both theoretically and practically.

That's why she started experimenting with vegetable dyeing her own yarn about eight years ago.
She then quickly discovered that the art of vegetable dyeing offered thousands of possibilities - and a new world opened up to her.

Today, her yarn is dyed with plants, which she collects from the wild in the western part of Jutland, Denmark.
She harvests plants at the beginning, middle and end of the season, as well as collecting enough to dye at any time of the year.
I supplement the harvested plants with cochineal, madder and indigo.

She is still experimenting in her studio, which makes her more experienced in color processes.
A color can vary a lot, depending on when in the season it tints with the plant and whether it ferments the color preparation.
She also always dyes outside in the fresh air where she has her workshop.
Thus, she was able to experience that the results of indigo dyeing vary in freezing or warmer weather.

For Mette, getting the most out of natural resources is fascinating. And that's why she always tries to leave nature as untouched as possible when she harvests: she never takes all the plants or touches the roots, so that they can bloom again in the following years.

The wool used by Mette comes from Germany and is certified organic.
Its weight ratio is 1400m/100GR

The balls sold are 5gr for 65-70 meters.
You can crochet this wool in 2 or knit it in 2, 2.5 or 3 (it all depends on the desired result).

For a knitted scarf, measuring for example 165 x 23 cm, it is necessary to count 100 to 120 gr of wool.
